“She & She & She”

by Morgan Sage

My Mother’s cat can leap from the ground to the counter

She can practically fly, but rarely does

I keep telling her that there's tuna and little birds in space

I’m an enabler

She could jump over the moon, if she wanted

Bound up into the helm of space

Why stop at the cosmos when she could let her leap consume her

She could never come back down

But that cat isn't icarus she's sleeping under the Christmas tree

I think I was a cat in a past life I jumped, and I’m still making the return trip

I don't know who I'll become when I land

My Mother, her cat, or I.
